I love the result of this painting. The colors are vibrant and although the photo doesn’t show it well, there is a lot of light on the red wall. In fact, there must be eight or ten layers of transparent paints to produce this effect.
The door handle of my inspiration photo was rather European, with only a ball in the middle of the door. Since I have never seen this concept here in Quebec, I did hours and hours of research walking in the city to find a beautiful model not too modern and simple enough for the dimension on the canvas. Several months later, it was while walking here and there in Montreal that I finally found some beautiful examples on St-Hubert Street on the Plateau Mont-Royal.
